Chaya’s recent trip to India was filled with excitement, hard work, and fun times spent with the children of SOFKIN.

The children celebrated Ganesh Chaturdhi on 5th September. They made the idols that are a part of the festival. They also made many sweets, one of their favorite activities! Everyone enjoyed the day wearing new cloths, dancing, and celebrating the festival with their SOFKIN family.
During this visit, much time was spent tending to the details for the new building (more news on that soon). It was also a time to reach out to local groups that provide much needed support to the SOFKIN home.
The Senior Citizens Association from Srinivasa Heights is located in Uppal, Hyderabad. This group has made SOFKIN their primary charity of choice. They have provided many items that the children always need: bed clothes, water filter, note books, mats, dinner plates, lunch boxes, etc. They have heard about how well all of the children are doing in school and were so pleased with children’s progress that they have decided to develop a long-term association with SOFKIN. The group will be sponsoring the education expenses for children at the beginning of every academic year.
Mr. Laximi Narayana continues to be a dedicated and longtime supporter of SOFKIN. His generosity provides groceries for the entire month including items such as rice bags, lentils, oil, etc. These are the essentials that help provide healthy and nourishing meals for the children
Anusha spent a lot of time playing with the children, her “brothers and sisters.” It’s one of her favorite things to do when she visits. They even played a slightly altered version of Jeopardy that was fun and educational. Anusha also spends lots of times with the older children, mentoring them, and helping them continue to grow and excel.
One particularly festive celebration was for the September Birthdays. This included Anusha and Chaya’s birthdays!! They were lucky enough to be for there for their birthdays during the monthly party. The children had a wonderful time with the birthday children, Anusha, and they overwhelmed their “Amma” with beautiful handmade cards and gifts.
But the biggest excitement was the discussion of the new building. The children are all looking forward to their new home. Our next post will tell you even more about this building project. Check the website HERE for details as they develop.
